Assistant Depot Manager - 3PL/Contract Logistics

Our client's growing logistics company needs an Assistant Depot Manager for their busy Cambridgeshire cross-dock facility. The Role:

 

As Assistant Depot Manager, you'll play a crucial part in overseeing the daily transportation and freight handling operations. You'll:

  • Manage shift supervisors and drivers
  • Resolve customer issues
  • Plan complex delivery routes, which may involve multiple stops and time-sensitive deliveries
  • Update fleet systems
  • Ensure compliance with all site Health & Safety regulations

 

With a mix of office and physical tasks like occasional forklift operation, no two days will be the same.

 

Your Background:

 

Significant experience in a traffic office or transport operations environment is essential, ideally with previous supervisory responsibilities. Ideally this will have been gained within a general haulage, contract logistics, third party logistics environment. You should be highly organised with strong Excel skills for reporting, knowledgeable about transport regulations and health/safety protocols, and able to juggle multiple priorities. Importantly, excellent customer service and communication abilities are a must, as you will play a crucial role in managing staff and client relations effectively.

The compensation package includes a £38,000 to £44,000 salary based on experience, performance bonuses tied to key operational metrics, and holiday entitlement increasing with service.     As the Business Development Manager, you'll identify new business opportunities, form partnerships, and build client relationships. The focus will be on maintaining a healthy pipeline of new business and accounts concentrating on groupage, back haul, LTL, FTL and warehousing. You'll know how to think strategically, set objectives, and make them happen for the company's success.

     

    To succeed in this role, you must have a proven track record of achieving sales targets in the 3PL/4PL road freight, groupage and backhaul industry and possess excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills. Your skills set will include understanding how to qualify and build a sustainable and pipeline of business in a structured and professional way, built upon solid market insights about profitable target sectors.

     

    You will also be adept in building solid SOPS for new customer business to ensure complete understanding of customer requirements when it comes to operational implementation.

     

    It is imperative that you have knowledge of the UK to Mainland Europe or Mainland Europe to UK Lane.

     

    Experience of securing business across multiple following verticals would be highly advantageous, including food manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, technology and automotive.

     

    Our client's main hubs are in the UK in Yorkshire, the Midlands, and the South East plus sites in Belgium, and the Netherlands

     

    This UK based role is offered as a remote, national, field-based opportunity with regular meetings at HO or via Teams.
